The Fairness Foundation is a non-profit organization that seeks to help the uninsured navigate the overwhelming maze of hospital prices. We aim to empower the individual to get equitable treatment in hospital billing. There needs to be transparency in hospital billing. Every citizen can know how much they are being charged and why. Not for profit hospitals should be held to a standard that reflects their non-profit mission.*
* New York Times reported in “What is Charity”, "Nonprofit hospitals provide no more charity care than taxpaying counterparts do." *Stephanie Strom, Nov. 14, 2005
There are over 47 million Americans without health insurance, and even more are under-insured. Who are the uninsured? It can be anyone, employed or unemployed, it crosses all socioeconomic, ethnic and racial lines. A Harvard study reported that fifty percent of all bankruptcies in this country are a result of medical expenses.
Let's make it right, together. |
